Our Learning Spaces

Shape House has lots of different learning spaces, all with their own specialist subject.

We have a workshop, art/craft space, music room, theatre craft, life skills kitchen, chill/common room, outdoor space (with traversing wall) and a calming learning space.

Continuing with our theme of nature, all our learning spaces are named after different birds.

Check out the photos and videos below to see our learning environments.

Our biophilic setting creates an environment that engages the senses and fosters a deep connection to the outdoors. Research demonstrates its profound effects on physical health, mental well-being, and environmental sustainability, creating a natural environment that is conducive for learning.

We have created a spacious, calming environment that supports the low-arousal approach to learning. All of our rooms have natural light and look out onto our outdoor space.

We have ensured the the flow of the building allows children and young people to feel comfortable and confident, our rooms all have access to our outdoor space so that children and young people don’t feel trapped, reducing anxiety and promoting good emotional wellbeing.

Shape House is a secure site, we have a locked gate on our outside space and key-fobbed entry. Children/Young People have their own secure entrance/exit that can only be accessed by a member of staff. Visitors have a separate entrance that leads into reception where they are required to sign in and obtain a visitor’s lanyard. Lanyards are colour coded to easily identify volunteers, visitors and those who have a DBS

Woodpecker

Our Theatre Craft and Music Space. This room has a lighting rig and sound system as well as a range of instruments to learn and play.

Themes for Theatre Craft centre around different genres of books, encouraging communication, community and building confidence.

If you don’t feel like you want to be centre stage, you can learn all about the technical side of theatre.

The room also doubles as a sensory space, with the shutter down and the lights on.

Wren

A learning space dedicated to Arts, Crafts and Enterprise.

Sessions include drawing, painting, crafts and making things to take home or sell. We have upcycling projects where you will create something new from something that may be old or unloved.

Wren flows into Falcon, so you or your friends might create something there and bring it into Wren to put the finishing touches to a fabulous project.

Falcon

Shape House’s very own workshop.

You can choose woodwork, using tools or designing something using one of our 3D Printers.

This is where our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) activities will take place.

There will be individual projects as well as teambuilding activities.

Partridge

The Life Skills kitchen, a lovely space to prepare, cook and eat your freshly made food.

Our cooking curriculum focuses on simple meals, different ways to cook eggs, potatoes, food in a bun and Fakeaway challenges.

As we grow, you will also have the opportunity to help make dinner for everyone at Shape House, including the staff!

Kingfisher

This building is a standalone on the Shape House site.

Children and young people will enter Shape House through Kingfisher, with secure entrance/exit and a gate on the outside of the building.

Kingfisher leads out to our outdoor learning space, it will be the starting point of your day and a place to go to to have some quiet time.

Outdoor Space

This is the place for Outdoor Adventure Activities.

Rope work, den building, mindfulness and therapeutic Forest School, just some of the activities you might do.

It is also a space to just take yourself away, chill and prepare yourself for learning.
